With over 25 years of experience in health policy and insurance-related legal matters, Pati has served on a number of insurance-related advisory committees throughout his career. Most recently, Pati was appointed to the new all Payor Claims Database stakeholder advisory group for the State of Texas. She is also a member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the Texas Association of Business and an appointed member of the Board of Directors of the Texas Life and Health Insurance Guaranty Association. Previously, Pati served on the Board of Directors of the Texas Association of Health Plans, including two terms as Chairman, on the Board of Directors of LTC Re, LLC, a Delaware captive insurer, and on the Board of Directors of the Texas Health Insurance Risk Pool. She is a graduate of Texas A&M University and New York Law School. Shara is passionate about using her platform to inspire women and young professionals to become leaders in their organizations. She chairs the Company`s Women Improving the Strength of the Enterprise (WISE) business resource group and oversees WISE`s career, community, business and culture initiatives in the Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans in Texas, Illinois, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Montana. She also represents the company as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of TMA PracticeEdge and also serves on the boards of the North Dallas Chamber of Commerce and IT`S TIME TEXAS. As Vice President of Texas Plan Operations, Patty leads the commercial performance management and operating model of the Texas Plan. Specifically, he is responsible for improving business performance, measuring results with daily analysis, conducting monthly reports and modeling, and supporting the activities needed to align business objectives, as well as influencing and driving operational excellence throughout the Texas plan.

Patty also leads the Texas Plan`s public relations, communications, and community affairs teams, including the Caring Foundation of Texas, of which Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas are the main sponsors. She also leads the compliance and operational risk management and independent dispute resolution teams. Its responsibilities include, but are not limited to, network management, compliance and monitoring activities, and conducting routine risk assessments and network adequacy reporting. A strategic thinker with deep industry knowledge and a knack for numbers, Patty is an experienced leader who drives business results and solves operational problems through relationships. She began her career at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas in 1997 as a Chartered Accountant in Abilene. Over the next 18 years, she made rapid progress and eventually held the position of Senior Director, where she led all the service functions that supported the national mid-market accounts business in Large in Marshall, Texas.

The joint project will bring together the expertise of more than 20 interdisciplinary researchers from eight Texas A&M University colleges – the Health Science Center`s colleges of dentistry, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and public health, as well as the colleges of agriculture, education, and engineering. Project focus areas include: rural ambulatory care systems, the function and future of rural hospitals, community empowerment, and technology and health information. “Rural health care needs moon shots. That`s what we`re doing with this collaborative project between two companies with similar missions,” said Steven Brown, MD, associate vice president of clinical strategy at texas A&M Health Science Center. By combining our expertise, we can gain actionable insights to improve access, quality and delivery of healthcare in the state, nation and around the world. “The innovative research and care strategies resulting from this collaboration with the Texas A&M Health Science Center have the potential to help not only rural communities in Texas, but across the country,” said Dr. Dan McCoy, President of BCBSTX. “As someone who grew up in a small town in Texas, I understand and appreciate both the challenges and health needs of people in rural communities. A flagship of the project will be the A&M Rural and Community Health Institute at the Texas A&M Health Science Center, led by Nancy Dickey, MD, President Emeritus of the Texas A&M Health Science Center. Since its inception 15 years ago, the institute has identified the challenges faced by small hospitals and developed solutions on how to maintain health care in the affected community.
