Medical-Legal Partnerships: MidPenn currently operates three Forensic Partnerships (MLPs) in its service area. MLPs combine legal defense with health care to address environmental and social factors that impact a patient`s health. Legal Intervention for Victims and Empowerment: Through MidPenn`s Legal Intervention for Victims and Empowerment (LIVE) project, they are able to offer survivors of domestic and sexual violence additional legal representation in protection orders, family law, housing, and eviction. Currently, the LIVE project operates in Berks, Blair, Clearfield, Cumberland, Franklin, Fulton, Huntingdon, Lancaster, Lebanon, Schuylkill and York County.

Sometimes the bureaucracy doesn`t want to listen, especially when it makes a mistake. A grandmother with limited income was informed that she had received an overpayment of $1,100 in her Social Security benefits and was ordered to pay it back. At that time, the woman was struggling to pay for a new roof and stove for the old house where she cared for her granddaughter. One of our legal aid membership programs, North Penn Legal Services, has appealed on his behalf. In the end, it was decided that the overpayment was Social Security`s fault, and the claim for reimbursement was withdrawn. Without legal assistance, the woman would have been unjustly punished. MidPenn Legal Services is a 501c(3) nonprofit law firm that receives funding to provide free civil law services to low-income residents and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in 18 counties in central Pennsylvania.
