Note that I didn`t even mention the quality of cinema in this list. There are many inept filmmakers who can behave professionally, just as there are many brilliant filmmakers who claim that the world owes them something. (I`m also a big fan of shortcuts, which is why my browser`s “Read Later” list is filled with links to articles like “18 must-have stats for email marketers” and “The best tools to manage your inbox.” Suffice it to say that my inbox is still not managed.) 2. Health emergencies – films on health emergencies such as COVID-19, monkeypox, Ebola, disaster relief and health in conflict situations; This is where other considerations than the quality of the film come into play. Most of these considerations are beyond your control, such as the suitability of your film for the festival audience or the presence of other films at the festival that are too similar to yours. (Even movies that aired last year could be a factor!) N.B. It is possible to submit a working copy of the film. When completing the application form, please indicate whether your submission is the final version or a working version. The submission of a working copy does not allow the subsequent submission of a final copy. Any live-action, documentary/non-fiction or animation project presented or intended to be presented in a multi-part format. This includes pilots, pilot presentations, web series, docuseries, limited series, anthologies, or any other film or video project created to take place over multiple episodes.
Episodic projects can come from anywhere in the world and you can submit one or more episodes of the same project as long as all episodes are streamed in a single video file for digital download and do not exceed 10 GB. We accept both short and long content, with no restrictions on the minimum or maximum length of episodes or series. Projects from the United States cannot be submitted in this category if the submitted content has been or will be made available to the public in its entirety via a public theatrical exhibition or broadcast, home video, or digital platform before January 30, 2023. Projects from outside the United States remain eligible if some or all of the submitted content has been published only in the project`s country or countries of origin, or not at all. If some, but not all, episodes have been shown in cinemas or made available through another public platform, you may only submit episodes that have not been shown in cinemas or otherwise made available to the public. For example, if the first season of your series is available online, you can only submit episodes from a subsequent season that have not been made public in any form. The selection committee of LA CINEF will present films: it seems obvious (I said it!), but every year, I receive several dozen emails from filmmakers who want to know if the festival I work for accepts an “updated” version of their film. Sometimes the changes consist of softened sound or color correction, but sometimes the film has been completely reworked because the filmmaker has finally made the perfect editing changes to correct the third act. Special Film Award on Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) – films that consider SRH and rights as fundamental to the overall health and well-being of individuals, couples and families, as well as to the social and economic development of communities and countries. This special HAFF award and its list of films will be a contribution to the 50th anniversary of the Human Reproduction Programme (HRP), also known as the UNDP/UNFPA/UNICEF/WHO/World Bank Special Programme for Research, Development and Research Training in Human Reproduction.
You will be contacted prior to the official press conference. You must provide us with either a DCP (Digital Cinema Package), a JPEG 2000 file or a 35mm copy. The film department will send you all the necessary information in time, but only if your film is selected. You can also join our advocacy group on Linkedin to stay informed about the latest updates and share how you helped support our festival. Great group of people. I loved being part of the festival. Tell the voice to be quiet. Filing before a late deadline is a bad idea for a number of reasons, but paying more to avoid a bigger chance of your film making it to the festival should be the only reason you need. The Sundance Film Festival values independence, creativity and the courage to take risks and plays an important role in discovering emerging international talent and connecting them with audiences and the film industry in the United States.
